Morton’s Neuroma
Morton’s Neuroma Treatment Kansas City, MO
Your feet are incredibly complicated and have more tendons, ligaments, and muscles running through them than you can imagine. As a result, several conditions can affect all areas of your feet and cause pain and discomfort. One such condition is known as Morton’s Neuroma.
Morton’s Neuroma affects the balls of your feet, which is the padded portion of the sole between your toes and arch. The initial signs of Morton’s Neuroma are subtle but gradually turn more and more painful. This condition is typically the result of thickening or swelling of the tissue of one of the tendons connected to your toes.

Morton’s Neuroma Symptoms
Morton’s Neuroma is an internal condition, which means that there typically aren’t visible physical signs. The first thing you usually feel with this condition is similar to having a tiny pebble stuck in your shoe or a bubble in your sock. As it progresses, however, Morton’s Neuroma will cause burning pain in the ball of your foot that radiates to your toes and causes numbness and tingling.
What Causes Morton’s Neuroma?
The exact causes are unfortunately unknown. However, it always seems to stem from irritation, pressure, or injury to one of the nerves connected to your toes. Wearing high heels, having a foot deformity, or engaging in sports or exercises that cause stress to your feet can increase your chances of developing Morton’s Neuroma.
Treatment for Morton’s Neuroma
The treatment you require depends on the severity of your symptoms and condition. Wearing the right shoes with arch supports and foot pads is usually the first course of action. Icing the affected area, anti-inflammatory medications, and learning how to walk properly will also ease the symptoms of pain and discomfort.
However, if these treatments aren’t enough, you may require surgery to repair the nerve and tissue damage. Surgery to repair Morton’s Neuroma involves removing the inflamed nerve causing the issue. It may also include relieving pressure by releasing tight ligaments that put unwanted pressure on the swollen nerve. These surgeries are minimally invasive and a specialty of Ortho of KC.
