Orthopedic Urgent Care

At our walk-in Orthopedic Urgent Care Clinic, we specialize in urgent orthopedic injuries. Our clinic is ideal for high school sports injuries since practice and games almost always take place after normal office hours.

Our clinic accepts walk-ins at both our locations and is ready to help Monday through Friday, 8AM to 8 PM. In addition, our NKC and Lenexa locations are open on Saturday from 8 am – 6 pm. Knowing that accidents happen at all hours, our facility gives you access to highly-specialized Physician Assistants who are experts in orthopedic care and sports medicine. Patients will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis.

What is Orthopedic Urgent Care?

In contrast to urgent care doctors, orthopedic urgent care providers know how to treat injuries to bones, muscles, and joints. They treat people the same day, take X-rays on-site, and, if needed, set up follow-up care with an orthopedic specialist.

Obviously, if you get a major, life-threatening injury to your muscles, bones, or joints, especially after hours, you should go to the nearest emergency room right away to get help. If possible, you should go straight to an orthopedic urgent care center where you’ll get specialized care with less waiting time and for a lesser cost than if you went to the emergency room.

Benefits of Orthopedic Urgent Care

There are many advantages an orthopedic urgent care facility can provide. Here are some of the many benefits this care provides:

Instant Access

The biggest benefit of orthopedic urgent care is immediate access to the care you need, when you need it. At an orthopedic urgent care clinic, you won’t be pushed aside when more serious, life-threatening emergencies come in, like you might see in the emergency room. Because people who have had a heart attack, stroke, and more will be heading to the ER – it makes sense that a person with a sprained ankle will be treated in a more timely manner at an orthopedic urgent care clinic.

Reduced Cost

When it comes to specialized urgent care, the cost-benefit analysis is very good. Most of the time, going to the ER costs more than going to an urgent care center, and if you go to the ER, you’ll need to see a specialist afterward. It is much more cos to get the medical care you need from the right specialist right away because this saves you time and money. And who wouldn’t want to avoid getting a bunch of bills after going to the et-effectivemergency room?

One-Stop-Shop

X-rays, setting the break, and putting on a cast are all things that can be done in a single walk-in visit to an orthopedic urgent care center for a simple fracture. At an emergency room, the same procedure could be done, but it would take longer, have more steps, and cost more. Specialized urgent care is very helpful for many communities and patients because it makes things run more smoothly.

Orthopedic Urgent Care vs. Emergency Room

Most injuries and accidents don’t occur during normal clinic hours. They always seem to happen when you least expect them to. If you or a loved one are at risk of suffering from an injury or a worsening of an existing condition, it is in your best interest to be knowledgeable about the orthopedic treatment choices available to you. The ability to make educated healthcare choices depends on having a good idea of where to look for help.

Instead of the emergency department, you may want to consider visiting an orthopedic urgent care facility for injuries that aren’t immediately life-threatening. When a patient needs emergency medical attention for an orthopedic injury or disease that is not life-threatening, an orthopedic urgent care clinic is an excellent choice.

Common Questions

How Do I Determine if I Need Orthopedic Urgent Care Versus an Emergency Room?

The Ortho Health of Kansas City practice treats non-emergent injuries like broken bones, sprains, minor dislocations, and sports related injuries. While these injuries may seem emergent, they do not require a trip to the emergency room. However, if you have a life threatening injury, such as an open fracture, excessive bleeding, head trauma or spine injuries, immediately go to your nearest emergency room

How Does Urgent Care for Orthopedics Differ from a General Urgent Care?

While general urgent care clinics treat many different illnesses and injuries, our practice is specifically dedicated to caring for urgent orthopedic injuries. Our program helps reduce the long wait times, high co-pays, and avoids the unnecessary referral to our orthopedic specialists.

Do you treat children and adults?

Our practice specializes in the treatment of orthopaedic injuries for all age groups, whether your child was hurt at sports practice, or if you slipped and fell on the ice.

Does Insurance Cover Orthopedic Urgent Care?

Our practice happily accepts most major insurance care plans along with certain Medicare insurance care plans.

What if my Injury requires Surgery?

Our physicians perform surgical procedures, but not at our urgent care clinic. If your injury requires surgery, we can schedule your operation at any of our convenient sites with one of our doctors or an affiliated surgeon.
